Thank you for this reminder. I don't seek fame, but often forget that the Lord has me where he does in order to show His love and grace to those I come in contact with. I work in a church op shop (thrift store), and we aim to be the church in the community, as many of our customers wouldn't attend a church building, but will come to us.
A prayer I often pray is that my reputation means nothing, it is His reputation at stake in what I do, and that I would bring glory and honour to Him.
I pray that your conversations with this young man would bring glory and honour to the Lord; that you would hear and see as the Lord does, and that the words you speak (or not speak) would be from the Lord (with your lived wisdom and experience).
I loved this because I can really relate to it. I have been encouraged by many to seek "bigger/larger" places to teach/preach but I feel that Jesus wants me right here in a little town in upstate NY. I also am involved in meeting with young guys who are struggling but being victorious in recovering from drugs and alcohol and finding their calling in Jesus. I would rather do what He wants than what I want. At least I am working on that! LOL
You know I told you years ago how big your influence is on young people. They listen to you and respect you - even the ones who don’t believe. And in my own work this was a good reminder that each individual child is important. We can get discouraged but it’s not about numbers or notoriety. It’s about individual relationships and sharing the light one person at a time.
My prayer for you and the young man is for both of you to be held in God’s hands and protect those moments you will share the gospel with him. That nothing nor no one would interrupt the blessing you’ll be for this man. God bless you and may He continue to show you His purpose for you. Thank you for being faithful to our Lord!
This is a wonderful post and a needed challenge to a world striving for significance. How many times has this derailed my efforts to serve Christ when I became enamored with needing to be significant as defined by our world. Finding that balance of being available regardless of whether the road leads to obscurity or prominence is the key. Thank you for the encouragement to have the spirit of Paul, "In whatever state I am to be content". It is there that we can minister to presidents or paupers as the case may be. I pray that God will lead, guide and bless you in this conversation and as you continue to use what He has given you to His glory.
Will do and what a wonderfully honest post about what God is doing in your life. Yes, there are the obvious sins all of us struggle with. Then the thoughts and attitudes that need to be kept in check and addressed through repentance and confession. And finally there are areas that are so deeply ingrained in who we are that we don't see them until the Good Shepherd rips away the blinders and sometimes does so with a whack from his staff. Take the call! It's the little, unassuming things that truly count and that will be pleasing to our Lord.
Praying for you in the coming days as you meet with this boy that The Holy Spirit will give you the words to speak and the demons that surround him will flee and this boy will seek Jesus for his life. We live in such an evil world, but there is hope!
Thank you for sharing this! Darkness isn’t a thing. To darken a room, you don’t open up a box of dark and spread it around. You block the light. In the same way, evil isn’t a created thing. Evil happens when we distance ourselves from God. Every choice we make has the potential to take us further from, or closer to God’s light. Praying that the Holy Spirit uses you to shine God’s light into this man’s heart.
Thank you for your willingness to share with us as you step into this young man’s life. I will join the many who will pray for God to work through you.
You are in my prayers for your conversation with that young man and all the young women and men who are being torn apart by what they are being taught within a broader culture aiming to capture them mind and body. But that culture can never capture their souls… because ‘they’ (that culture) don’t believe in that kind of light. Truth and Love will always be the liberator of our souls.
Praying for the Holy Spirit to continue to use you for His Glory and mightly in the conversations with this young man searching for answers.
